Dry Toilet
Sewage treatment is a case of unfinished business in much of rural Spain - in too many cases there is no treatment whatsoever, domestic sewers emptying directly into rivers and steams.
For 15 years here in Spain (and another 15 before that in Switzerland) we have used dry toilets, as are used in many mountainous regions of Europe, or in campsites in the Americas and Australia. We started with an outhouse, and progressed to indoor dry toilets, which work very well, being odor free and easy to use and maintain.
Once you’ve tried one, you’ll see how installing one in a country home is no problem, requiring only a corner in the garden or a field for the compost heap.
